Every week Doc Mack, owner of the famous Galloping Ghost arcade, reveals a new “Monday Mystery Game” that he adds to the floor of his massive location in Brookfield, Illinois. This week’s reveal was extra special, because it represented the 1,000th game on the floor at Galloping Ghost. That’s quite a milestone!
The 1,000th game revealed was a very rare 1995 LaserDisc game by Data East called Road Blaster. The gameplay appears to play very similar to Dragon’s Lair, where players look for cues on the screen to press a direction or a button. In this case though, instead of rescuing a damsel in distress players are trying to help a “vigilante…avenge the death of his wife by pursuing the biker gang responsible for her death in a modified sports car.”
The game was animated by studio Toei Animation, which was also responsible for the 1986 film The Transformers: The Movie. They used an astonishing 15,000 hand-painted cels to create the game’s 30+ minutes of animation.
The game was eventually ported to various platforms, including Sega CD, Sega Saturn and PlayStation.
