There are many stand up arcade control panels out in the world. The most popular by far is Dance Dance Revolution. The floor of the game is literally a Direction pad and button system, but most importantly the way you keep track of points based on timing. This game changed the way people played arcade games and at the same time had a great workout when used as a get-in- shape tool.
Probably the most unique arcade cabinet I have heard about is the game Boong-Ga Boong-Ga. This game, only seen in Japan as far as
I know, basically takes the idea of poking your opponent in the butt. The controller is a giant finger and, well, you poke your opponent in
the butt. The game also dispenses cards that rate players on their “sexual behavior” and for gamers who do really well, there’s a small plastic trophy in the shape of a pile of feces. Other versions made the game have a hand which will spank the gaming butt instead of poking. I couldn’t make this up if I tried...
With today’s technology and imagination, gamers are creating their own unique control panels for their home arcades, adding such peripherals as light guns, keyboards, trackballs and more. In my opinion, the originals from the 1980s and 1990s are unbeatable and will remain the most unique controllers seen in gaming history.
Other machines used that format to make some incredible looking games. One of those was Top Skater. In this game, the floor had
an actual skateboard which was used as a controller and moved
the character in real time
on the giant TV screen. It really made the experience more realistic.
