On March 1st, Paragon 5 opened up its remix contest for the classic Game Boy Color game Project S-11, which has recently seen a rerelease for the Chromatic by ModRetro. The original 8-bit soundtrack, by Finnish composers Jonne Valtonen and Aleksi Eeben, has a strong reputation in its own right beyond the top-down shooter itself, which saw its original release on January 3rd of 2001. Paragon 5 was and is not a traditional game studio, but a collaborative outfit based out of Chicago which saw a fusion of talents from programmers to artists to musicians in the demo scene of the late nineties.
While details about the contest can be seen on Paragon 5’s website here, the contest itself takes place at labelradar.com, with that website being designed for artists to upload their demos for labels and promoters. First and second place in the contest will win cash prizes- $2000 and $1000 respectively, with LabelRadar credits and a BeatPort Studio Membership included for the top three finishers. The use of artificial intelligence in this contest is strictly prohibited.
The closing date for the contest is May 16th, and plenty of time remains for musicians to submit further entries. Sample remixes can be seen on Spotify here. The original soundtrack for Project S-11 can also be listened to at khinsider.com here. It was uploaded to the video game music database on June 6th of 2022.
