On February 26th, the Swedish company Clear River Games confirmed the upcoming release of Snow Bros. 2 Special for the Nintendo Switch this coming April 10th. The news follows up the release of Snow Bros. Wonderland last November, which released on the Nintendo Switch, the Playstation 4, and the Playstation 5. The original Snow Bros. game saw its release in the arcade way back in 1990. The colorful game was similar to Bubble Bobble, featuring cartoony characters using distinctive abilities to clear their way to the next room.

Snow Bros. 2 Special is being released in conjunction with the Japanese company Tatsujin. The original company behind the Snow Bros. franchise, Toaplan, went defunct in 1994. Tatsujin is led by Masahiro Yuge, a former Toaplan employee who formed Tatsujin in 2017 in part to acquire Toaplan’s intellectual properties. Because Snow Bros. 2 was the final Toaplan release in 1994, it has never before been ported to game consoles.

The remake of Snow Bros. 2 Special includes an arcade perfect mode for those who wish to experience the game as close to the original as possible, in addition to a newly upgraded graphics mode. In addition to a graphics overhaul, this new version of the game includes bonus modes such as Survival, Time Attack, and Sky Run. A new Monster Challenge mode, which allows players to take control of enemy characters. New stages, monsters, and bosses are also included in this version. Lastly, as was the case with the original title, local four player co-op is available. Snow Bros. 2 Special will be available in both digital and physical release this coming April 10th 2024.
