AURCADE
THE FUTURE OF ARCADE WORLD RECORDS!
By Gunther Vinson aka NoQuarter
Ihave been hosting tournaments and gaming challenges for years now, both online and in person
for different platforms. They
were mainly in the home arcade community which has a strong and easy to use infrastructure built up with ready-made online leaderboards, peer-to-peer online multiplayer. Also having them be easy to understand and interact with systems that make playing within the community was a real blast. This aspect of gaming has been absent from real arcades, or at least not fully realized as of yet, but the minds at Galloping Ghost have been developing an online platform to bring this level of score organization and interaction to the real-world arcade scene. ENTER, AURCADE.
Now, let's be honest, keeping scores, hosting world records,
and holding players to a certain standard is not a new concept; Twin Galaxies did this years ago and the Godfather of Gaming, Walter Day, created the interest for it, but what AURCADE has set out to do is spur a new revolution in how we play and invest our time in
gaming entertainment. Currently, AURCADE offers a Game Directory, Arcade Locator, Member Directory, Forum, and Leaderboard. After
I spoke with Doc Mack about AURCADE, I learned that the plans for AURCADE are much more than a world record house... They are planning to create a vehicle to make arcade superstars and more... I love it! Doc Mack is the proprietor of Galloping Ghost Arcade and related ventures in Chicagoland, Illinois. Known for it’s extensive collection of video games.
Currently you can search nearly every arcade game created using the onsite Arcade Locator. The
list is extensive and impressive
to say the least. Not only can you search for each game, but under each game you are able to search where you are able to find the cabinet located in the wild, see the current world record holder and score, and read a brief description and screenshot of the game play. Under the location browser, the filter allows you to search for very unique locations such as airports,
churches, laundromats, and, of course, arcades... what a super cool and awesome concept! We all grew up playing at the craziest places! Where were some of the strangest places you found arcade cabinets?
The members section and forums are active and are constantly running high score and time trial runs and discussing different techniques and game strategies. Live streams are active and you are able to watch a lot of the high score runs as they are performed. Once you get to the Leaderboard tab you get to the heart of the website and where the action truly is... NEWEST SCORES! This page lists the 50 most recent verified scores and for the retro gaming maniac, this is where you are going to live. You could visit this page every day to give yourself
a new challenge, see where the new kids on the block are sitting score-wise or jump on and own the boards yourself!
Now as for the future of AURCADE, Doc gave us some really cool tidbits of info on how AURCADE has been a powerful tool to help
