Ihad some great experiences with the PS2. Thinking back on those memories, I decided to make a list
of my top 10 PS2 games.
6: FINAL FANTASY X
Having owned every Final Fantasy up to this point, I didn't want to miss this one. Sneaking food at work during the day, and ramen packets at night would allow a broke 19-year-old to buy this masterpiece. It was all worth it. Final Fantasy X took graphics, storytelling, and gameplay to a whole new level. The use of motion capture for animation gave a real feel to the experience for the first time. I spent the better part of 16 months immersing myself fully
to complete the game 100%. There has been a remastered released for every system, but you can buy the PS2 version online for $10, and this is why it's my Number 6 pick.
5: MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2 NEW AGE OF HEROES
What is a list without a fighting game? MvC2 was the best arcade game in the 2000s IMO. Finally,
a PS2 version was released. We now had a way to be back at home hanging out once again. We were happy to not be dumping $5 to $10 anytime we had a session. The must-have for hangouts, the port
is almost perfect and allows for smack-talking to be backed up by the gameplay. There is nothing like administering a 3-person 100 hit combo finisher on your best pal while reminding them why you own them. Now this game is on the heavier side and costs $170 for a complete copy online. Seeing your friends being driven before you, crushing your enemies and hearing the lamentation of their women is why it's my Number 5 pick.
4: BURNOUT 3 TAKEDOWN
I was never really a huge fan of simulated racing. Grand Turismo was fun, but the real-life car experience was not for me. Then why is Burnout 3 so appealing? Untethered high-speed mayhem; you will need to get to the finish line in one piece. Hitting your opponents like a battering ram earns you boosts which allow you to go faster and hit harder. You can play split-screen with your friends. This was our preferred mode. We had many nights where a perfectly
timed takedown decided who paid for food or drink that evening. Even without friends, the game holds your attention with every hit and win you have. The solo mode has 173 events to run through and getting max completion will take a long time. You can pick this game up for $20 online and this is why it’s my Number 4 pick.
3: TIMESPLITTERS 2
This is my favorite “shooter” for consoles. As a group of friends,
we always had some game we played together; in 2002 it was TimeSplitters 2. Timesplitters 2 gives you everything had learned from Goldeneye and Halo and, since most of the original GoldenEye team helped create this game, you are able to jump right in without issue. You can play the story mode by yourself or Split-screen story mode to play with a friend. When our friends came over, we could split
it up to 4 multiplayer screens. The game shined when you could play
4 consoles connected and have a 16-player deathmatch. With time travel, weapons, and an exceptional story, you can see why it was featured in the movie Shawn of the Dead. You can pick this game up for $25 online and this is why it's my #3 pick.
