 2: GRAND THEFT AUTO 3
Grand Theft Auto 3 benefited greatly with the change from 2D to 3D. The first time I played GTA3 was when my best friend Chris picked it up. Chris worked at the movie theater, and we couldn't stop comparing this game to being in a movie. We would take turns running missions while blasting MSX FM as loud
as we could. The open world was something new to everyone. Games like Shenmue had “open world” but not to this extent. The weather, the police officers, the crime, and other daily NPCs make looking around exciting as you never know what is happening. Going back and playing GTA3 reminded me of how fun 2001 was. As I write this and listen to the soundtrack, all it takes is closing my eyes, and I'm right back there. Pick this game up for $15 online which is why it's my Number #2 pick.
1: SILENT HILL 2
The Silent Hill series on the PS2 was by far the best thing to happen to horror fans. The horror scene
up until this time was zombies or ghosts but this was the first time a game looked at the psychological aspect of horror. Taking more notes from movies like Jacob's Ladder, the gameplay had me on my seat and closing my eyes more than I like
to admit. I love to play this game and have my wife watch. She is even more animated, which makes the experience more intense. I also recently had my adult son start to play SH so that he can understand why SH2 is getting remade for the PS5. If you can’t wait for the PS5 version to drop at the end of this year - then you can pick up a copy online for $120. This game for the PS2 is my choice for Number 1 for the PlayStation 2..
