I feel that it is worth mentioning that most people don’t think of the Intellivision as a 16 bit console.
The broader definition of a 16-bit system in the gaming industry, particularly during the era that followed the Intellivision, typically encompasses not only the CPU's capabilities but also the overall system performance, including graphics, sound, and the complexity of the games it could run. This comprehensive approach to system capabilities is why consoles like the Sega Genesis (which is commonly thought of as the first 16-bit home console) or the Super Nintendo are more universally recognized as
the standard bearers of the 16-
bit era. These systems offered a significant leap in all these aspects compared to earlier systems like the Intellivision.
That said, just because the Intellivision wasn't marketed primarily on the strength of its 16- bit CPU doesn't mean that it wasn't, at its core, a 16-bit system. This highlights an interesting aspect
